Frequently Asked Questions

What is Fractional Digital?

Fractional Digital is a consulting firm that specializes in guiding businesses—from startups to $250 million enterprises—through strategic marketing. It was founded after a shift from corporate roles to fractional consulting, aiming to make impactful marketing strategies accessible to businesses of all sizes. Our philosophy is that effective marketing begins with a solid strategy, not just random tactics.

Who typically hires Fractional Digital?

Clients come to Fractional Digital when they have a digital presence (like a website or CRM) but struggle to leverage it for customer acquisition. Common scenarios include businesses considering e-commerce, shifting to direct sales, or seeking to understand enterprise sales. Additionally, we work with those needing strategic advice on launching or expanding MarTech software.

What problems does Fractional Digital solve?

We start with a comprehensive "diagnostic"—a deep dive into foundational marketing strategy using 14 common frameworks. This helps pinpoint effective tactics for website optimization, email marketing, and campaigns. We also address broader business strategies, often connecting clients with other specialized fractional executives as needed.

What is a “digital reset”?

A digital reset is a holistic overhaul of a company's digital marketing efforts. Over time, businesses layer various tools and approaches that don't always work together seamlessly. We reset and align these to form an integrated, effective marketing system.

How does Fractional Digital work with clients?

Our process begins with a 30-45 day diagnostic to develop a tailored Marketing Plan. Clients can then retain us for ongoing execution or manage implementation internally.

What sets Fractional Digital apart from other consultancies?

We combine expertise across four areas: technology, marketing, business, and strategy. This unique blend allows us to address complex challenges that traditional consultants may not handle, particularly in the specialized field of MarTech.

What is fractional work, and why is it growing?

Fractional work is the part-time engagement of seasoned executives (e.g., fCXOs) to provide high-level expertise without the full-time cost. This model has gained popularity, especially among small businesses, due to its cost-effectiveness and flexibility.

Why is flexibility important to your clients?

Our flexible model allows small companies to access expert guidance without the cost of full-time executives. For nonprofits and startups, we offer a "Low Fidelity Marketing Diagnostic" to create a foundational strategy that meets them where they are organizationally.

What tools and frameworks does Fractional Digital use?

We rely on Strategyzer frameworks, including Business Model Canvas, and a proprietary platform called Ella, designed to streamline marketing strategy and execution. Ella integrates AI and various frameworks to make marketing strategies more robust and actionable.

Do you record meetings?

Usually, yes. On video calls an AI notetaker joins and captures the conversation. For in-person working sessions I use a voice recorder. The reason is simple: I would rather be in the conversation than writing in a notebook, and the notes are better than anything I would have scribbled.

You will see the notetaker join, and I will say it out loud at the start. If you would rather I not record, tell me and I will turn it off. That request is normal and it is never a problem.

What happens to the recordings?

Transcripts and notes stay inside the engagement. I use them to build summaries, action items, drafts, and analysis, which is most of what you are paying for. They are not shared outside the work, not sold, and not used to market to you or anyone else. If you want a recording deleted, ask and it is deleted.

If we have signed an NDA or MSA, that agreement governs. If your company's policy prohibits third-party recording tools, say so at scheduling and we will work without them.

Do you use AI in the work itself?

Yes, and openly. Transcripts, research, analysis, first drafts, and document assembly all run through commercial AI tools. The judgment, the recommendation, and the accountability are mine. Most consultants I know work this way. The difference is whether they tell you.

What advice do you have for businesses considering digital transformation?

Consider consulting with trusted advisors to ensure informed decisions. Digital transformation, especially for small businesses, often requires strategic tweaks rather than full overhauls. We offer fCXO-led workshops to diagnose and resolve key operational challenges for impactful growth.
